L2C is a new GPS signal for civilian use on the L2 carrier frequency. Only newer GPS satellites (block IIR-M or later) are able to broadcast this signal.
The original civil signal is still broadcast on the L1 frequency. As more satellites with L2C are put into service, new civilian GPS models will be able to use both signals to gain greater accuracy.
