LAAS is an acronym for Local Area Augmentation System. LAAS is used primarily to provide greater accuracy for aircraft landing approach.
LAAS systems will cover approximately a 30-mile radius and provide up to a Category III precision approach. WAAS covers the Continental U.S. but is only capable of supporting Category I precision approach.
WAAS and LAAS work together to provide users a navigation capability for all phases of flight.
